A New Era in Tourism: Tickets on a Blockchain
Blockchain becomes more and more friendly to the people, so the folk starts getting acquainted with it. One of the huge steps in spreading the technology is tickets on a blockchain. Thus German airline Hahn Air says they are the first who came to an idea of issuing the tickets on a blockchain. The company announced about this change on the 18th of November.
Hahn Air’s is collaborating with Winding Tree, a decentralized platform for the travel industry. This collaboration turned out to be externally fruitful and resulted in ticket sale using blockchain technology. The first passengers who used blockchain-booked tickets were Frederick Nowotny, head of sales engineering at Hahn Air, Maksim Izmaylov, the founder of Winding Tree, and Davide Montali, CIO at Winding Tree.
According to the given comments, the company’s main goal is to investigate the possibilities blockchain gives to the travel industry even if its widespread is a matter of future decades.
Tickets on a blockchain and other opportunities
In recent years cryptocurrency and blockchain technology has entered the travel industry and obtained its own substantial place. So this event is not the first of that kind. A UK based Alternative Airlines has partnered with cryptocurrency service Utrust. Thus they facilitated payments with cryptocurrencies.
In October Zamna, a blockchain startup, has risen $5 million in order to automate airport security checks. The key of the technology is blockchain and biometrics data checking. Now the startup has a lot of clients, including United Arab Emirates’ General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs among the other customers. Not long ago International Airlines Group, Emirates Airlines started collaborate with Zamna too.
The latest event shows that blockchain is a way to promote tourism. Australian province of Queensland figured this out as well so they have issued a governmental grant TravelbyBit. It is just a small part of $8.3 million of innovation funding but the Australian government believes that allowing the tourists ticket booking with crypto will burst the tourism area, which is one of the major sector of Australian economy.
